The second edition of L.A. OLA showcase is underway
L.A. OLA - Contemporary Spanish Cinema Showcase will be held on May 20, 21 and 22 in three venues of the city of Los Angeles: Echo Park Film Center, Non Plus Ultra and the legendary Egyptian Theater. The curators have chosen five films that excelled in festivals around the world for this edition, and the big news for audiences is that all passes, workshops and panels will be free with the sole exception of the Closing ceremony.
The exhibition opens on the 20th with the film The Money Complex by Juan Rodrigáñez at the Echo Park Film Center. Prior to the inaugural pass, Pilar Monsell’s Africa 815 will be screened at the Non Plus Ultra venue. On Saturday 21 the films Basilio Martin Patino. The tenth letter by Virginia García del Pino, and Androids Dream by Ion de Sosa will be screened in both spaces.
The Closing Ceremony of the showcase will be on Sunday, May 22 at the Egyptian Theater. The day will begin with "How to sell your film", an industry panel focused on new marketing techniques for independent films, followed by the Los Angeles premiere of Dead Slow Ahead, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the last Locarno Film Festival and present at this year’s SXSW.
L.A. OLA - Contemporary Spanish Cinema Showcase aims to highlight the most experimental and innovative films created in Spain by new generations of filmmakers. Despite being recognized in some of the most prestigious international film festivals, this "new wave" of directors lacked a specific event in Los Angeles to show their movies.
L.A. OLA is a production of LA Panda Productions, curated by Playtime Audiovisuales in collaboration with Elia Urquiza and Carlos Marques-Marcet and directed by Rocio Mesa. The exhibition has the support of the General Consulate of Spain in Los Angeles, the Embassy of Spain in the US, Spain Arts and Culture and the Trade Commission of Spain Los Angeles, as well as the collaboration of Los Angeles FilmForum, American Cinematheque, Echo Park Film Center and Non-Plus-Ultra. The graphic image of the showcase has been designed by Estudio Nariz.
